For years, the state has been extending a dubious and overpriced contract.
Appointees of Minister Jozef Ráž at the National Motorway Company have allocated an additional €40 million to SkyToll—a company that, through a questionable tender process, has been supplying disadvantageous and overpriced toll services for years.
Meanwhile, the government has increased the prices of motorway vignettes, and toll fees are also set to rise. We will all end up paying more—drivers, freight carriers, and ultimately consumers.
It is absurd that citizens must pay even more for unfinished motorways, with the funds flowing to a private company. Alongside freight carriers, we call on the government and the National Motorway Company to put an end to this situation. If the state budget requires saving, the government should first eliminate unnecessary expenditure.
The toll tender is one of Slovakia’s biggest scandals. The first Fico government excluded three companies from the competition and entrusted the provision and operation of the toll system to the private company SkyToll. The contract was overpriced and unfavourable for the state. Despite this, it remains in force, and the state continues to amend it.
Corruption has devastating impacts on our daily lives. Only together can we stop it.
