SMER Party’s Rhetoric Clashes with Calls for Conciliation Post-Assassination Attempt on PM

Following the assassination attempt on Prime Minister Robert Fico, the SMER party’s pre-EU election rally in Tvrdošín starkly contrasted with the calls for conciliation from coalition leaders. Deputy Speaker Ľuboš Blaha and Chief Adviser Erik Kaliňák addressed supporters with incendiary rhetoric and veiled threats. Blaha’s speech included inflammatory attacks on political opponents, media figures, and President Čaputová, while Kaliňák’s cryptic comments on gas supplies hinted at covert political manoeuvres. An antisemitic remark from the crowd went unchallenged, further highlighting the divisive nature of the event.
