Long-time anchor and political moderator Michal Kovačič delivered (26.5.24) a candid farewell on his final episode of Slovakia’s top political debate show on TV Markíza. He claimed increasing pressures and censorship attempts by the channel’s leadership.
Despite being the most-watched show, episodes were cut, raising concerns about media censorship and its impact on democracy. A day later, TV Markíza announced the show’s cancellation, citing Kovačič’s prior statements.
In response, 95 employees, including other anchors, supported Kovačič in a written statement, emphasizing their commitment to preserving the freedom of Markíza’s reporting.
